Professional Exfoliation for Radiant Skin

photo of woman getting a facial procedure doneIf you’ve already obtained clinical exfoliation, you know the results are amazing. If not, you’re sure to be delighted! Refined techniques reduce dark spots, facial lines, freckled skin, and wrinkles. Acne improves with gentle methods, removing dead cells, killing bacteria, calming inflammation, and fading scars. For teens through seniors, exfoliation treatments brighten skin.

Professional methods are superior to home treatments. At a dermatology practice, a trained clinician customizes techniques to skin type and condition. Without this expertise, you can choose a retail product that harms your complexion. At Georgia Dermatology Center, we specialize in safe techniques, maximizing the benefits of exfoliation.

Your body is always engaged in cellular turnover. As new skin cells mature, they migrate to the outermost skin layer, the “epidermis.” Eventually, the cells die, leaving a residue of organic material. The epidermis encompasses 20 to 30 rows of dead skin cells!

Some old cells shed with physical contact and the upward push of new cells. However, when dead cells accumulate, skin appears dull. When they persist on the surface, pores become clogged with dirt, oil, and bacteria, creating acne.

With aging, the process of cellular turnover slows. After the teenage years, skin renews itself about every 30 days. After age 50, the sloughing cycle further decelerates, occurring every 40 to 90 days.

Professional exfoliation speeds the stages of cellular renewal. Among the techniques available are dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels.

This pain-free treatment renews your complexion by removing dead cells and fine hair. It also stimulates new cell growth by spurring the production of collagen and elastin, vital skin proteins.

Before the procedure, you’ll receive a facial and prepping solution. Then, a licensed aesthetician gently sweeps a sterilized micro-blade across your face. Dermaplaning is relaxing, performed with a light touch and feathery strokes.

Taking only about 30 minutes, you’ll see an immediate improvement in skin texture. Eliminating spots and fine hair brightens your complexion, softens skin, and evens tone. If you wear makeup, you’ll find it easier to apply. Acne is less likely to recur with the absence of bacteria and hair.

Dermaplaning is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers since solutions don’t enter the bloodstream. Additionally, there are no side effects or downtime. Your facial hair won’t grow back darker or thicker. When hair reappears, you can return for another treatment, typically one month later.

This exfoliating technique uses microcrystals to remove the top layer of dead skin cells. Like dermaplaning, it increases collagen and elastin production, fostering radiant skin. Microdermabrasion fades or eliminates dark spots, uneven tone, large pores, wrinkles, fine lines, and minor scars. Since the procedure opens clogged pores, it’s effective against acne. It may also reduce the redness of rosacea.

Microdermabrasion is ideal for sensitive skin. The crystals are non-allergenic, applied as a spray from a wand-type instrument that generates mild suction. The procedure takes 30 minutes to an hour. The treatment is painless, although you may feel a gentle warmth or tingling as the crystals work. For optimal results, microdermabrasion is done in a series of five to 12 treatments at three-week intervals.

With this technique, a solution applied to skin causes cells to loosen and eventually shed, replaced by new, healthy cells. Once completed, the treatment reveals supple, smooth, and vibrant skin.

To perform a peel, a licensed aesthetician applies the chemical and leaves it on for a few minutes. As it penetrates, you’ll briefly feel mild tingling or warmth. Afterward, your skin will be pink. Depending on chemical strength, the coloration fades within hours or several days.

SkinMedica Peels

We use SkinMedica products, formulated to complement the natural healing properties of skin. The company’s chemical agents are doctor-formulated, the result of extensive research and clinical testing. Producing only mild warmth or tingling, SkinMedica peels suit all skin types.

This method resolves mild skin imperfections, yielding radiant skin after just one treatment. While normalizing tone, it fades minor blemishes, fine lines, sun damage, and acne scars. Since Illuminize chemicals are gentle, visible peeling is unlikely. You can obtain subsequent peels every two weeks, with optimal results achieved in six treatments.

This gentle peel addresses mild to moderate skin imperfections, including uneven tone, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, roughness, and the mottled patches of melasma. You’ll see results after just one treatment, with remarkable improvement after three to six peels.

Vitalize can be repeated every three weeks, and social downtime is minimal. Some flaking may occur for up to four days, minimized with moisturizer. After a peel is complete, your skin will be smoother, firmer, and clearer, with more even skin tone and diminished wrinkles.

This medium strength peel treats moderate to severe skin conditions, such as melasma, acne scars, uneven tone, wrinkles, and lines. Peeling occurs over three days, with visible improvement in about one week. Social downtime is minimal. For best results, three to six peels may be needed, spaced monthly. Upon completion, skin is considerably brighter and smoother.
